路希斯与尼弗尔海姆，两国之间的战争旷日已久，在路希斯王国节节败退之际，尼弗尔海姆帝国宰相—艾汀却独自前往路希斯王国进行和谈，以保留王都，割让周围土地作为停战条件并同意尼弗尔海姆属国—特涅布莱耶王国千金暨神巫—露娜弗蕾亚与路希斯王国王子诺克提斯之间的婚姻，作为和平的见证。
而在停战协定签署之前，诺克提斯与朋友一行人正为到外地长途旅行做准备，而父王雷吉斯则要求王子旅途的第一站先前往水都—欧尔提榭与露娜弗蕾亚见面。
然而尼弗尔海姆帝国却将露娜弗蕾亚带往路希斯。在停战协定签署仪式举行的当日，尼弗尔海姆背叛了路希斯，向王都进行袭击。台上不断地报导：“作为路希斯王国象徴的‘水晶’已被帝国保管安置”，同时传出路希斯国王雷吉斯与婚约对象的露娜弗蕾亚，以及诺克提斯本人都已死亡的假消息。
路希斯王国一夕之间分崩离析，身为路希斯王国最后血脉的诺克提斯只能与3名友人驾驶父亲的爱车“雷迦利亚”，游走世界各地寻找先王的陵墓获取皇家武器与诸神的启示并和露娜弗蕾亚会合，表面上是为了打倒帝国和光复祖国而战，实际上却有着更重要的使命。
